It’s time for our Spring wine releases, and we’re excited to share two new and beautiful wines with you.  But first, a word about last year’s harvest which was stellar and our largest to date.

We could not make red wine in 2020 due to the wildfires and smoke taint on the grapes. Following a collective sigh of relief, the 2021 harvest ended without drama or smoke. It was almost a perfect growing year – moderate temperatures throughout the season with none of the big temperature swings of previous vintages. The grapes matured at a consistent rate ending with a slightly early harvest. The wines are all in French barrels aging and are tasting beautifully.

On to our newest 2019 releases.

A new wine for us is the 2019 RD [Rive Droite], a Bordeaux-style Right Bank blend of 45% Cab Franc, 40% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s fruit forward with violets and dark cherry on the nose, cherry and black fruit at the base, and a plush center highlighted by exotic spices. The tannins are polished and present, without being overpowering. The Merlot creates a wide and rich mid palate, leading to a lingering finish. We’ve been enjoying it with pizza! We only made 54 cases of this special wine and expect it to sell out quickly like last year’s Assemblage did.  If you love it, don’t wait long to order more.

The 2019 Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is the second vintage of our flagship Cab from the Wildcat Vineyard, and she’s a beauty. Jumping out of the glass are aromas of milk chocolate covered strawberries, spices and subtle toasted oak. Concentrated flavors lead with blackberry, cherry and cranberry with well-integrated tannins. The bright fruits are balanced by beautiful acidity and a hint of minerality. Barrel-aged for 26 months in French oak (60% new), this wine easily will age for many years if you’d like to cellar it, or feel free to enjoy it with some hearty foods.
