Appellation: Mount Veeder, Wildcat Vineyard, Napa Valley
Fermentation: Open-top fermenters
Barrel Aging: 26 months in French oak (100% new) followed by nearly 10 months in bottle prior to release. The two lots were kept separate and aged for 24 months before blending and then returned to barrel for an additional two months to achieve integration.
Flavor Profile: A silky smooth and voluptuous blend. Oak and fruit notes drive the nose out of the glass, and the balanced fruit-forward blend arrives on the palate with a complete front to back finish.
Varietals & Source: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Wildcat Vineyard, located 1,800 feet above sea level on Mount Veeder. The Wildcat Vineyard was planted with red Bordeaux varietals by Lisa Chu in the 1990s and produces rich, intense grapes with soft tannins. The vineyard's hilly topography, microclimates and long growing season make it challenging to farm, but the additional effort yields wines that are consistently elegant and memorable.
Clones: This limited bottling showcases the best lots of Clone 15 and Clone 169. The “Elegant Lady” or Clone 15 from the Hillside Block usually results in a wine that is more elegant, smooth and well rounded. The “Bratty Boy” aka Clone 169 from the Terraces Block is typically more tannic, angular and full bodied. We blend these to capture the elegance of the Elegant Lady with the backbone and structure of the Bratty Boy. Alone, each could make a great wine, but together they create magic in the bottle.
Aging Potential: Recommend cellaring if you can. It will only improve over the next 15 to 20 years. .
Alcohol: 14.5%
